Xikar – NXT

Price: $50 MSRP

Construction:  The NXT is a very solid lighter.  All parts move freely and easily and it feels weighty and solid in your hand.  It has an ergonomic curve to it that makes it very pleasing to hold and lighting a cigar with it feels very natural.  The angle that it can be held due to the shape gives added comfort and ease to light cigars.

Burn: Depressing the lever produces a nice even flame from the small gap in the top.  The over-sized adjustment wheel allows you to easily change the flame for lighting a cigar or making corrections.  Lit 50 times out of 50 and stayed smooth and even on burn for 2 minutes straight.  The top can become hot if lit for long periods of time though so be careful!

Appearance: The NXT is beautiful with a brushed metal and a chrome finish.  I love it but the manic part of me hates it.  I can barely control myself when there is a smudge on the smooth chrome, but that is entirely my idiosyncrasy.   There is an easy to read fuel window located on the back of the lighter so the front is nice and clean. Even the box that it comes in is very attractive and they even include a soft wipe cloth for OCD people like me.  How considerate of them.  I wish that the Xikar logo were just a bit smaller, but it hardly diminishes from this otherwise beautiful lighter.  It will certainly be an eye-catcher while out.

Overall:  The look, feel, and dependability of this lighter just get top marks across the board from me.  Even if there is a better looking lighter it is hard to argue with a lifetime warranty.  If anybody is still unconvinced, I am thinking about getting these as gifts for my groomsmen when I get married this summer; that is how much I think of them.

I give this lighter a 4.75 out of 5

  1. Thanks for the review Phil. Oddly enough, I did use this lighter the other day at one of my shops. The NXT was easy to use and did it’s job well.

Everyone I show this lighter to wants it. I’m in a dispute with a friend over this lighter. He says the chrome is plastic and I say it’s metal. I still have no way of finding out. A magnet does not work but that doesn’t prove anything. What’s your input?

Sorry for my late reply, but after talking with a Xikar rep I can safely confirm for you that it is solid chrome. Magnets actually don’t work on chrome, much like aluminum. Tell your friend to get his own!
